TL;DR For those that have replaced the thermal pads on the PS4 RAM chips, did it actually do anything? What thickness and brand of pad did you use?I've been having a rough go with my PS4; the fan is on full jet speed pretty much all the time. Doesn't even matter what game I'm playing. Only time the fan rests is during streaming, the home screen, or maybe when a game is paused. I know a lot of people are plenty familiar with this.
Buy Fujipoly Extreme System Builder Thermal Pad - 60 x 50 x 0.5 - Thermal Conductivity 11.0 W/mK: Heatsinks - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on. Let's begin this properly. This is the guide on how to install the thermal pads for the 1070/1080 FTW. These thermal pads were not sent to me from EVGA. These are my spare thermal pads from my watercooling kits, and they are.5mm each. What you need: Phillips screwdriverTherma.
I have a launch day PS4 (I'm assuming CUH-1000). Once my warranty ran out, I decided to crack that bad boy open, clean it out and replace the thermal paste. It seemed to quiet down for a bit, but went back it its old ways pretty quickly. I decided to take a couple of different steps before I finally sell the system for parts and just try again with a fresh system.I purchased Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste, a brand new Nidec fan (why not?) and some Fujipoly Extreme thermal pads at a 0.5 thickness. The pads on the memory chips are crooked and compressed and aren't even cut to the same size as the chips.I'll be frank, I'm doubtful this is going to work, but here's my question nonetheless: for those that have replaced their thermal pads, what thickness did you use? I purchased 0.5mm thickness but I've heard of others using 1.0mm thickness. The trick is, some pads have more bounce or 'springiness' than others.

What's your input?. I did my thermal paste by itself and didn't really notice much of a noise change at all, maybe a little.
I then bought a 1mm sheet of Fuji Poly and re-did my paste and replaced all the pads.It made a HUGE difference, my PS4 was dead silent at idle, and barely spun up. This was right around when Rocket League came out and there was that weird menu issue where people's fans would go full blast. Mine barely turn up off idle. And in games like The Last of Us or The Golf Club where my fan used to run at least at 50% if not more, it barely got off idle in those games.I can't recommend doing your thermal pads enough, mine were like yours, all crooked and after you take it apart one time to do the paste they half tear off and get even more crooked making them useless. I'll likely replace them again the next time I do my paste(if I ever even need to), too much damage when taking the metal cover off.
